Indoor activities

Tea and Bannock

The simplest of activities: visiting a local family for tea, bannock and conversation at home. The residents of Qikiqtarjuaq are friendly, and look forward to welcoming you into their homes, and talking about their life, their community, their culture and heritage, and their hopes. It is a remarkable opportunity to get an insight into this unique way of life, and a wonderful opportunity to make friends with the local community.

When: Operates daily, coordinated through the Gathering Centre
The Price:  $35 per person

Inuit Culture and Heritage

Visiting the community is a wonderful experience, but having the opportunity to learn about its history, culture and language from a local elder, is a quite remarkable experience. Through story-telling and discussion you will be immersed into the deep traditions and beliefs of the Nunavummiut during a two-hour talk held at the Gathering Centre, the perfect location for this introduction to the community’s way of life.

When: Wednesday evening and Friday afternoon
The Price:  $50 per person

Community Arts and Crafts

The culture and heritage of a community are most vividly expressed through its arts and crafts. In Qikiqtarjuaq, these traditional skills are alive and well, and visitors are welcome to join our demonstration of these extraordinary talents. We offer two opportunities: a demonstration of traditional clothing and its manufacture held at the Gathering Centre, and an introduction to the arts of carving and tool making held in the community Arts Studio. Each is remarkable, and represents a continuity of life in the Arctic stretching back thousands of years.
